The Director of Strength and Conditioning will oversee the daily operations of the athletics strength and conditioning and campus fitness programs, their respective facilities, and supervise the staff for these areas. This position will develop and implement the sports performance program for Barry's 19 intercollegiate athletic teams which includes developing sport-specific conditioning programs, performance analysis/sport science data, injury prevention/ rehabilitation programs and nutrition. This position will also be responsible for teaching proper and safe weightlifting techniques and motivating student-athletes to reach their potential. Additional responsibilities include coordinating rehabilitation with the Athletic Training staff, educating student-athletes and staff in the areas of sports performance, and maintaining compliance with NCAA, SSC, and Barry University rules and regulations.
The Director will oversee support services for Barry’s strength and conditioning facility, nutrition, and sport performance analysis in accordance with University, Conference and NCAA regulations. Supervise fitness center staff implementation of fitness programs and special events appropriate for various populations to create opportunities that foster engagement and well-being for the Barry University Community.
The Director will look to collaborate with university departments to support the student-athletes with special projects and research to further solidify the department’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
Proven skill in communicating issues clearly and gathering information through appropriate research and consultation with a wide variety of constituents including sports medicine personnel, dietitians, coaches, student-athletes and athletic administrators.
Create and implement programs to develop and enhance strength, speed, power, endurance, coordination, energy system specific conditioning, agility and ability to change direction.Partner with Athletic Training to develop a holistic sport performance program.
Hire/develop assistant strength and conditioning coaches, graduate assistants, student interns and volunteer interns.Hold meetings consistently over various strength conditioning topics.Assign each staff member to an appropriate sport.
Other duties as assigned, which can include serving on department committees, assist with game day operations, and participating in community service/engagement efforts.
A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of five full-time years of experience at collegiate setting or professional.
Must have and maintain First Aid and CPR/AED certifications; if not currently certified, mustobtain certification prior to working with student-athletes.
Must be a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must be a member/or become a member of CSCS - National Strength and Conditioning Association or SCCC - Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Assoc.
Expert applied experience of various movement screenings and correct exercises preferred
Excellent communication skills
Additional certifications recommended [i.e., FMS, PES, CES, USA weight lifting, etc.]
